Structural Engineering

Structural design for India's most demanding built environments

J&F India delivers structural design for commercial, residential, industrial and infrastructure projects, from concept through to construction support. Our work is code compliant by default, checked against seismic and wind demand for the site, and optimised so the frame is buildable at the budget it was priced at.

Teams cover concrete, structural steel and composite systems, backed by geotechnical input and delivered in a coordinated model alongside MEPF engineering and BIM.

Why J&F India

Why choose us for structural design

Proven Indian project experience

Delivered across seismic zones, coastal exposure and congested urban sites, so the design allows for how the project will actually be built.

Seismic and code compliance

Designed to IS 1893 and IS 13920 with ductile detailing where the zone demands it, and independently checked before issue.

Speed without guesswork

Parametric models and scripted checks let options be compared quickly, so value engineering happens during design rather than after tender.

What we do

Our structural design expertise

A multi disciplinary team solving the structural problems Indian construction actually runs into.

High-Rise Design | structural design services

High rise design

Tall building frames for urban India, with lateral systems sized for wind and seismic demand and foundations tuned to the site.

Industrial Solutions | structural design services

Industrial structures

Factories, warehouses and process plants, including crane loads, heavy equipment supports and long span roofs.

Retrofit Analysis | structural design services

Retrofit and assessment

Assessment of existing assets and strengthening design that can be built while the building stays in use.

Foundation Engineering | structural design services

Foundation engineering

Shallow and piled foundations designed against the geotechnical investigation, with settlement checked across the footprint.

Value Engineering | structural design services

Value engineering

Options compared on material, programme and buildability, so savings are found without moving the risk to site.

Bridge & Special Structures | structural design services

Bridges and special structures

Road, rail and utility crossings, and the one off structures that do not fit a standard form.

Scope

Key services we provide

Engineering support at every stage, from the first scheme through to the last site query.

Concrete, structural steel and composite systems for buildings of every type, taken from scheme to construction issue.

Analysis for complex geometry, transfer structures and load cases that a hand calculation cannot resolve credibly.

Independent checking of a third party design, and option studies that compare cost, programme and buildability.

Interpretation of the ground investigation through to shallow, piled and raft solutions, with settlement assessed across the structure.

Evaluation of existing structures against current code, and strengthening schemes that can be staged around occupancy.

Steel connection design and reinforcement detailing produced to be fabricated and placed without reinterpretation on site.

Civil infrastructure spanning metro, rail and highway, including precast segment geometry and temporary condition checks.

Response to site queries, review of contractor submissions, and design changes issued while construction continues.

Standards

The codes we design to

Indian standards govern the work. International codes are applied alongside them where a project calls for it. Structural standards are published by the Bureau of Indian Standards, and highway and bridge works follow the specifications issued by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways.

Concrete

IS 456 for plain and reinforced concrete, with ductile detailing to IS 13920 where the seismic zone requires it.

Structural steel

IS 800 for general steel construction, with connection capacities checked against the fabricator’s preferred details.

Loading and seismic

IS 875 for dead, live, wind and snow load, and IS 1893 for seismic demand based on zone, soil class and structure type.

Buildings and fire

The National Building Code of India 2016 for overall building requirements, structural safety provisions and fire resistance periods.

Bridges

The Indian Roads Congress codes, principally IRC 6 for loads, IRC 112 for concrete road bridges and IRC 24 for steel.

International practice

Eurocode, AISC and ACI where a client, lender or international design partner requires the work to be demonstrated against them. Reference material is published by the European Commission Eurocodes portal and the American Concrete Institute.

Why it works

Benefits of working with J&F India

Local market knowledge

Regional codes, climate exposure and the way projects are actually procured and built in each state.

One multidisciplinary team

Structural, geotechnical, MEPF and BIM under one roof, so interfaces are resolved internally rather than by correspondence.

Direct communication

A named project lead, predictable issue dates, and site queries answered within the programme rather than after it.

Material efficiency

Designs optimised for concrete and steel quantity, which is where both the cost and the embodied carbon sit.

Questions

Structural design questions we are asked

Yes. We work on new structures and on the assessment and strengthening of existing ones, including schemes that have to be built while the building stays occupied.

The design is produced to the relevant IS codes and the National Building Code, and checked internally before issue. Where a project requires it we also arrange independent third party proof checking.

Yes. We regularly deliver into workflows led from outside India, and can demonstrate the design against Eurocode, AISC or ACI in parallel with the Indian codes.

A typical package runs 5 to 12 working days depending on scale and how settled the architecture is. Programme critical packages can be sequenced so site is never waiting on drawings.

Yes. We respond to site queries, review contractor and fabricator submissions, and issue design changes as construction proceeds.

Yes, and it is common. We begin with an assessment of what exists, confirm what can be retained, and set out clearly what has to be redone before we take responsibility for it.

Yes. Steel connection design and shop drawings, and reinforcement detailing with bar bending schedules, are produced by the same team that designed the frame.
