Battery energy storage engineering questions

Civil and structural works for the storage compound, electrical design including power conversion and transformation, fire detection and suppression, HVAC for the enclosures, and grid connection design.

Lithium battery thermal runaway is the governing hazard. Design responses include separation distances between enclosures, dedicated detection including off gas detection, suppression appropriate to the chemistry, deflagration venting, and access arrangements that let the fire service work safely.

Cell life and safety both depend on temperature control, so enclosures are conditioned with redundancy, since a cooling failure is a safety issue rather than a comfort one. Ambient conditions in much of India make this a significant load.
