Metro & Rail

Metro Engineering Services

J&F India delivers structural, MEPF and BIM engineering for metro rail programmes across India, covering depots, viaducts, elevated stations, underground stations and the systems interfaces that tie them together.

We work from alignment feasibility through to as-built handover. Our teams sit alongside metro rail corporations, general consultants and EPC contractors, producing coordinated models and construction documentation that hold up under the phased, corridor-wide delivery that metro work demands.

How we deliver a metro programme

5 phases, each producing something the next one depends on.

We assess corridor options against geotechnical data, right of way constraints, existing utilities and station spacing, then size the structures and interfaces before commitments are made. The output is a route that can actually be built through a working city.

We develop typical viaduct spans, station typologies and depot layouts, with preliminary structural sizing and the drawing sets and quantity support a tender package needs. Standardising typologies early is what keeps a corridor repeatable.

Piers, pier caps, U girders and box girders, precast segment geometry, station framing, diaphragm walls, base slabs and ventilation shafts are taken to construction level, coordinated across civil, architectural and services disciplines.

We federate civil, architectural, MEP and systems models so clashes with track, traction, signalling and fare collection are resolved before site. Four dimensional sequencing is used to test corridor logistics where working room is limited.

We issue shop drawings, support the precast yard on segment geometry, respond to site queries and close out with as built models and the asset data the operator needs on day one.

Key Features of Our Metro Engineering Services

Metro work is repetitive at corridor scale and unforgiving at every interface. These are the areas where our engineering makes the difference.

Viaduct and Precast Segment Detailing

Span by span and balanced cantilever geometry, casting yard geometry control, and launching sequence checks so segments fit as cast rather than as corrected.

Elevated and Underground Station Structures

Concourse and platform framing, entrance structures, and diaphragm wall and top down sequences for cut and cover boxes built alongside live traffic.

Tunnel and Shaft Coordination

Interfaces between bored and cut and cover sections, cross passages, and ventilation and escape shafts resolved in the model before excavation begins.

Station MEPF and Life Safety

Tunnel ventilation, environmental control, fire detection and suppression, and egress routing designed around the evacuation principles metro stations are held to.

Systems Interface Coordination

Track, traction, signalling, telecom and fare collection routes coordinated against structure and services so the systems contractor inherits space that exists.

Depot and Stabling Facilities

Inspection bays, workshops, washing plant, stabling lines and their utilities, planned around the maintenance regime the fleet will actually run.

Metro engineering questions

Structural, MEPF and BIM engineering for viaducts, elevated and underground stations, depots and the systems interfaces, from alignment feasibility through to as built handover. Rolling stock and signalling are supplied by others and we engineer the interfaces.

The interfaces. Civil, architecture, services and systems all converge in a station box or on a viaduct with very little tolerance, and track, traction, signalling and fare collection each need routes and space. Resolving that in the model before site is the whole task.

By treating traffic, utilities and adjacent buildings as design inputs rather than site problems. Staged construction, utility diversions, decking over excavations and settlement monitoring for adjacent structures are engineered as part of the scheme.

Excavation support and life safety. Diaphragm walls and top down sequencing manage the excavation alongside live surroundings, while ventilation, smoke control and egress capacity determine the cross section and the number of entrances.

Segment geometry is controlled in the casting yard so units fit as cast, and the launching sequence is analysed because temporary conditions during erection often govern more than the finished structure does.

The Commissioner of Metro Railway Safety authorises passenger operations, and metro rail corporation standards govern design. Fire and life safety design generally follows recognised metro evacuation principles alongside the National Building Code.
